Desert Plantation | White Weddings
Why do brides choose white weddings? White is looked upon as a symbol of purity and simplicity. We can thank Queen Victoria for launching this tradition some 175 years ago. Since Queen Victoria many women of influence have continued the tradition by wearing white. Even Modonna wore white wedding dresses to both of her weddings. White wedding dresses dominate weddings. Just ask David’s Bridal the leading retailer for wedding dresses. In 2014 wedding gowns that were colored only accounted for between 4 to 5 % of gross sales. Sure there are some of us who go against the norm and wear a colored wedding gown but it certainly very few of us.
So Why White?
Apart from it being a very long trend to follow, white in today’s society is significant of purity and purity is significant of virginity. Even though the original motivation behind Queen Victoria’s decision to wear white was not purity at all. In fact Queen Victoria was showing simplicity and even went as far as repurposing pieces of her gown to show thriftiness.
